Abstract or Description

Although The Secret History of Queen Zarah (1705) was published anonymously, it is usually attributed to Delarivier Manley. It was not attributed to her in her own lifetime, however, and no modern scholar has attempted either to argue the case for attribution or to place it within its contemporary political context. This article presents external and circumstantial evidence which suggests that Queen Zarah was the work not of Manley, but of Dr Joseph Browne.
