Abstract or Description

In this radio programme for Montez Press Radio, I explore in conversation with the artist and publisher Emily Pope the historical and theoretical ideas around slime as they are developing in my book project, Slime: A History. Firstly we talk about ectoplasm in spiritualist practices in the early twentieth century, before turning to slime as toxic matter in postwar American film, as joyous material of the late twentieth century children's television culture and as the anxious matter of early twenty-first century social media. I also choose tracks to accompany each of the four slimey sections.
