Abstract or Description

In this book chapter, I examine how the history of the Walkman both expresses and challenges dominant models of history of technology including technological determinism and the social construction of technology, before exploring how the so-called Walkman Effect offers an expanded sense of contextualisation of a technology within its contemporary political and economic worlds.
