Abstract or Description

I have been External examiner for three years, beginning the academic year 2009 - 2010. The Program takes two and a half years to complete and has a clinical and theoretical base in a pluralistic psychodynamic model.

The course supports the creation of reflective practitioners who are able to work with different psychodynamic models within critical perspectives drawn from other disciplines. There is a mixture of experiential and academic teaching methods that integrates counselling theory, research and practice. There is a strong emphasis on critical perspectives that take account of issues relating to equality and diversity and cultural and social issues. The teaching of clinical work is contextualized within a qualitative, practice based research framework addressing key contemporary debates on the theory, practice and provision of counselling. This emphasis is essential for the contemporary practice of counselling and psychotherapy where questions of ‘evidence’ and research are key issues when seeking employment and funding for counselling and therapy provision in the public and ‘third sector’.
