ARTSCHOOL / UK

“An art school can be thought of as an art project. An art project can be thought of as a thinking site, functioning as a springboard from which ideas and concepts can be brought back to the notion of an art school, and give it new form and direction”.

—— Haris Pellapaisiotis, from
Speaking Thoughts: On an Art School

ARTSCHOOL/UK focuses on creating an environment in which Jon Thompson says “absolutely vital moves can be made by artists, an environment in which they can relate to share ideas with one another (ch-ch-ch-changes Ridinghouse, 2009). Perhaps a school or the idea of a school as a condition of learning, of being open to discourse and discovery, can also be seen as something we might carry with us wherever we go, whatever we do. (Raqs Media Collective How to be an artist by night) ARTSCHOOL/UK was launched in April 2010. For its launch year ARTSCHOOL/UK is working in collaboration with Cell Project Space, and the Whitechapel Gallery, London.

The project is divided into two Phases:

Phase I April 6th—25th 2010
at Cell Project Space, London

Phase II October 15th—17th 2010
at the Whitechapel Gallery, London
