Abstract or Description

The Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT) is the Queensland Art Gallery's flagship international contemporary art event. Established in 1993, it is the only major series of exhibitions in the world to focus exclusively on the contemporary art of Asia and the Pacific, including Australia. This publication accompanies the fifth exhibition in the series and explores the work of 37 individual artists filmmakers and performers, as well as two multi-artist projects. The art in APT5 engages with the aesthetic, social and political aspects of everyday experience - sometimes sensual and sometimes playful, sometimes minimal and sometimes intricate. Painting, sculpture, installation, film video, drawing, papercuts, miniatures, prints, poetry, hip-hop and dance converge, revealing the diversity of contemporary practice that engages with tradition and change in the Asia-Pacific Region.
