Abstract or Description

As part of The Web We Want project, which ran for eight months from October 2015, I advised the Guardian on how they could
a) Work with independent academics to produce original research into its own data (comment threads and the experience of its journalists and readers) to explore the nature of online abuse and thus contribute to the development of evidence-based prevention and intervention.
b) Give institutional support to its own journalists by implementing best practice, both in terms of supporting our own writers and by building a comment platform that has engaged, civil and diverse conversation as its guiding principle.
c) Campaign for a change in the law relating to online abuse in all the jurisdictions where it publishes, where the law is insufficient; and/or campaign for the existing law to be enforced.
d) Raise the profile of the issue of online through its journalism.
