Abstract or Description

This chapter explores texts by D. W. Winnicott, Masud Khan and Christopher Bollas, focusing in particular on Khan's notion of 'cumulative trauma' and on trauma as a structural fact of early infancy. It mobilizes the French understanding of Freudian nachtraglichkeit or 'apres coup' to reframe early trauma in retrospective terms.
