Abstract or Description

The chapter represents an attempt to theorise the practice of the Open Source Embroidery project in relation to current debates about materiality and networks. The text draws from a talk given at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, and introduces the Open Source Embroidery project and open source software. In it, Carpenter considers the history of open source software and the misunderstandings that have arisen around the term, before turning to the Open Source Embroidery project, which, she explains, "evolved to investigate the material and collaborative nature of computing, code and textiles through workshops, artworks and exhibitions."
