Abstract or Description

“Mecazi Mekan”, co-authored by Pinar Ögrenci and Minou Norouzi and published in Turkish (Art Unlimited, 2018, p.40-42) extends their curatorial deliberations relating to the exhibition project “Metaphorical Space” at MARSistanbul (10 May – 03 June 2018). The exhibition explored architecture and urban spaces in the context of uprisings and revolutionary impulses from Athens, to Aleppo, Tehran, Izmir, Cairo.

An off-site event at SALT Beyoglu (12 May 2018) included “Writing On The City” (2015), an essay film on the evolution of graffiti in Tehran by Kurdish-Iranian filmmaker Keywan Karimi. The work explicitly narrates Iran’s political history through socio-political, as well as quotidian expressions placed on the walls of Tehran by a diverse Iranian public.
