Abstract or Description

Series convened by Jorella Andrews

This series takes a fresh look at the issues, insights and strategies that are emerging in the transdisciplinary field of visual culture today, a field that we understand as a meeting ground between creative practices, the philosophical and the political.

Underlying all of these investigations are broad questions about why and how visual culture matters in the context of contemporary global challenges — in terms of the modes of attention and levels of investigation our methodologies bring into play, for instance, or by enlarging our capacities to locate sites for potential change within unpromising scenarios, or by engaging aesthetically as well as critically in what the artist and organiser Makoto Fujimura has called “culture care”.
