Abstract or Description

This workshop was part of a public online meeting organised by the Deptford's People Heritage Museum to discuss collectively how the museum might best go about memorialising the New Cross Fire (18 January 1981) though its collection of objects and images. Attendees brought objects and images with them, I led through a process I call exterme list-making which is designed to help people engage deeply with these items, and attendees then shared histories and insight. A surprising aspect of the workshop was how focused it was not on the trauma of the past but on hope going forward, and on the need for current young poeple in particular to be educated about the NX Fire and its many legacies.
