Abstract or Description

How can we think of formal devices in contemporary video and photography from the Islamic World as relating to non-western narrative and philosophical structures, simultaneously within and at the edges of art history as we understand it? Part of a longer engagement with Bani Abidi's practice, under the title "The Frame as Borderland", this book chapter aims to resituate South Asian contemporaneity within a complex and overlapping series of often incommensurable frames.
