Abstract or Description

From 1700, London music seller John Walsh entered into a struggle with Amsterdam-based publisher Estienne Roger to dominate London’s market in violin music, Corelli’s especially. But by 1720, Walsh had himself become a purveyor of Roger’s engraved violin music. Collating primary sources with earlier findings about Walsh and Roger – especially those of William C. Smith and Rudolf Rasch – I consider the grounds for Walsh’s switch in strategy, and the production and business practices the two shared.
