Abstract or Description

My Movement Choreography for the film Nosferatu directed by Robert Eggers (releasing December 2024) was indebted to my historic solo works such as Mythic and Black Mirror and my previous research into possession, hysteria, human and animal hybrids and associated research into the Occult and Witchcraft. See 'States of Possession' and 'Becoming Animal'. Possession in this context was suggested and understood as a psycho-physical or psycho-sexual phenomena and nodded to both the original version 1922 of Nosferatu by Murnau but also various other historical or iconic renditions of this story which in turn are indebted to Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The research for the film drew upon methodology developed from techniques from Butoh, German Expressionist legacies and from the aforementioned laboratory workshops. the key question in relation to choreographic research was how to represent the liminal space between the dead and the undead, how to represent a walk between life and death (for this I drew upon research into Butoh and Noh Theatre), how to represent an almost telepathic transmission of desire and possession (for this I drew upon Butoh and psycho-physical gesture). Working mainly with Lily Rose Depp and Bill Skarsgaard, I was able to craft a voabulary that steps between the iconic films of the past and visions something original.

My solo Black Mirror was in fact inspired by Nosferatu and I have previously done several group works based on Vampire narratives (Darkness Cycle 1 and 2) so it was a kind of artistic destiny that I contributed my artistic and research history to Eggers own vision for Nosferatu.

I have not released  images or videos directly connected to the film due to NDA. The film releases in USA in December 2024 and in UK January 2025.

This submission is to credit the movement choreography only and the film otherwise remains outside of my authorship.
