Abstract or Description

In 1962 the textiles of Althea McNish were first shown at The Whitworth in an exhibition entitled Modern Art in Textile Design. In October 2022, some sixty years later, McNish’s work was on show again as part of the touring exhibition, Althea McNish: Colour is Mine. This was the first retrospective anywhere in the world featuring this amazing female designer, heralded as the first designer of Caribbean heritage to gain international fame as a textile designer. This article explores some of the curatorial issues in presenting her work.
