Abstract or Description

This article discusses reworkings and re-interpretations of the myth of Demeter and Persephone in contemporary women's poetry. The importance of this archetypal narrative of women's experience to the formation of a female literary tradition is demonstrated in discussions of poetry including Rita Dove's Mother Love and Louise Glück’s Averno.
