Abstract or Description

Helena Reckitt gave a lecture, Getting Rid of Yourself, about artistic tactics of invisibility, anonymity and defection. The lecture reflected her research-in-progress for the 2014 group exhibition which she was developing at the time. Following the lecture, a seminar took place with York University MFA and PhD fine art students.

As part of the residency, Reckitt also carried out studio visits with practice-based PhD art students at York University.

The lecture took place as part of the 2013 Goldfarb Summer Institute, Unexpected Encounters: Sexual Difference and Art Now. Co-directed by Professors Yvonne Singer and Sarah Parsons, the programme examined the multiplexities of gender and sexuality in contemporary art through art historical, curatorial and theoretical perspectives. Other visiting speakers were feminist scholar, cultural analyst and art historian Griselda Pollock (University of Leeds), and art historian Richard Meyer (Stanford University).
