Abstract or Description

This chapter applies systems thinking and a resilience framework to the textile and fashion activities, in order to illuminate flawed relationships – a root cause of environmental and social unsustainability, in contrast to the dominant focus on symptoms. Drawing on resilience researchers Walker and Salt (2006), a series of principles are proposed for a creative resilience thinking in the remit of textiles and fashion. The chapter also comprises a conceptualisation of, historical perspective on and critique of the construction of sustainability as ‘other’ to prioritized societal logics dominated by the growth imperative.
