Abstract or Description

I discuss waiting in NHS hospitals as a claim or a property right, and suggest that the property is common to those who meet and occupy hospital spaces. A politics of care animates social contacts among strangers, and attracts ambivalence. 'Our' NHS values and practices produce a hyphen between nation and state (Aretxaga 2003), citizen and subject, equality and equity.
