In this interview Nicole Wolf speaks to Indian artist Tejal Shah about her artistic investigations of gender ambiguity, Bollywood cinema and violence against the minority Muslim community in the Indian state of Gujarat. Tejal Shah lives in Bombay, where she now lives and works as a practising artist and activist, and is a member of the Forum Against Oppression of Women, a 24-year-old autonomous feminist group, and Stree Sangam, a Lesbian & Bisexual Women’s Collective. Many works discussed were shown at her one person show: The Tomb of Democracy (Pruss and Ochs Gallery, Berlin, 2003).
