Additional Information:

OTOLITH 1(22.5 min, colour, sound, video, 2003) is the first in a trilogy of video-essays to explore the implications of the formulation of the notion of past potential futurity. The video-essay is understood as a mode of aesthetic research, which, methodologically speaking, operates as a form of audiovisual knowledge production that offers the space for a reflexive enquiry into the migration and mutation of modes of contemporary audiovisuality. Historically speaking, the video–essay is situated within the contested context of the post war tendency of the film essay; as such, it is characterised by a poetics of reflection and exploration. OTOLITH 1 formulates its exploration through the assemblage of archival and contemporary media into a constellation of episodes and a universe of materials that attempt to reopen the potentiality of seemingly occluded and partially inoperative historical futures.
