Abstract or Description
An essay reflecting on the work of artist and influential teacher David Bomberg, in the context of simultaneous exhibitions in London in late 2012: one focusing on a circle of artists taught by Bomberg at Borough Polytechnic in the late 1940s; the other showing early works of Bomberg's best-known student, Frank Auerbach. The essay goes on to consider how Glenn Brown's appropriation of Bomberg's images retroactively alters perceptions of this milieu.
