Under the title A story within a sotry...Dyangani Ose has curated a biennial that engages with questions that related to the production of history by exploring Umberto Eco's notion of the "open work" - both as a conceptual backdrop and as a curatorial methodology.. Understanding history as a concept in constant motion, forever unfinished and always promising the rise of new, future perceptions, Dyangani Ose proposes to establish a radical and transformative relationship between the nature of history and our role as narrators, storytellers, and actors in the production of such history.
As editor of this book, Dyangani Ose has compiled a selection of key seminal texts published in the field, as well as newly commissioned texts that engage with the specific context of curatorial enquiry posed in the exhibition.
