Abstract or Description

This essay first began with a description of a state of total immersion, the sensation of being suspended, weightless. This essay began with a description of the feeling of complete saturation and alienation that one can feel upon expelling all air and floating underwater (a metaphor for the swimmers among us). It began this way because I wanted to talk about immersion. It began this way because I wanted to talk about images. It began this way because I wanted to talk about the dissolution of the space between images, bodies and data. I wanted to discuss the dematerialisation of images (and bodies) such that the role of the image is no longer to represent a sovereign subject but to signal behaviours, ‘likes’, patterns of data, movement ... I wanted to talk about saturation, about the dematerialisation of bodies and images into a kind of delirious, contagious flow. And I wanted to talk about my own feelings of being suspended in this flow of images that surrounds us. But I was stopped by an image.
