A group of Israeli and Palestinian physicians and mental health professionals was trained to assess the physical and psychological evidence of torture according to the Istanbul Protocol. This paper describes the effects of one such assessment on the author, an Israeli-Jewish psychologist. It explores the phenomenon of politically-related dissociations, and the individual and group efforts to overcome them.
