'Letter of Complaint' celebrates the craft and affect of the formal complaint letter, presented in three scenes with interludes. The work draws on a combination of banal and desperate letters of complaint to communicate something that could perhaps even be called celebratory. The video follows Reupke’s ongoing interest in the expressive properties of stock images and the ways in which they respond and transform, when coupled with stillness and awkwardness. It is a process of introducing a level of fragility and ambivalence into images that have been emptied of these properties.

Commissioned by Cubitt in partnership with Tyneside Cinema. Following an exhibition at Cubitt, 22 January – 1 March 2015, the work was exhibited in The Gallery, Tyneside Cinema’s purpose-built space dedicated to the moving image, from 6 March – 12 April 2015.
