Abstract or Description

David Mabb’s exhibition Art into Everyday Life, was held at the Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius, Lithuania in 2006. Mabb produced carpets woven according to his designs that intertwined images of modernist Soviet era buildings in Vilnius, with design motifs derived from Lithuanian patterns of the Soviet period and patterns from the work of William Morris. The exhibition drew attention due to the unexpected connection between Soviet era architecture and floral ornamentation in the work of William Morris. The exhibition not only provided a new perspective on the familiar buildings of the Soviet period in Vilnius but also worked as a form of cultural memory repository, because these buildings may soon disappear due to their Soviet associations. Laima Kreivytė met the artist while he was still developing the concept of the exhibition.
