Abstract or Description
This text starts by tracing the way in which "autonomy" has been historically imagined to operate in the discursive space of the museum. It goes on to examine some of the claims of a number of authors (especially Stephen Wright and Grant Kester) that attempt to leave behind the claim to autonomy while holding onto the aesthetic edifice on which it was built.
