Abstract or Description: | In the Summer of 2009 I curated a group show where a new work was shown each day that the gallery was open, so that each work was only juxtaposed through time and memory, whilst never meeting the other pieces in the exhibition. A Work A Day opened and closed with a drawing by Richard Forster which dealt with the transient nature of time as mapped out over one day. The first drawing was taken from the 1st page of the Washington Post showing an image of the White House on 20th January 2009, the inauguration of President Obama and the last work was a drawing of the sea outside the artists' house, taken from a series exploring the transient nature of seascapes from a fixed view point. Each artist and work was only announced on each day that the gallery was open and was published on the current exhibitions page of the gallery website. The other artists showing each day were Amanda Beech, Tom Ellis, Alan Brooks, Jon Moscow, Ulrich Strothjohann, John Clayman, Jamie George, Alexander hassenpflug, Hannah Perry, Justain Gainan, Adam Thompson, Vicky Falconer, Eva Weinmayr, Laure Prouvost and Richard Forster. The exhibition was a continuation of my research into the invention of systems that allow for multiple levels of authorship and autonomy of artwork within a defined curatorial structure. |
