Abstract or Description

This is the Canon aims to rethink what are considered the 'classics' of literature and taps into the ongoing discussions around race and identity taking place throughout Britain and across the globe. Through linking The Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Ocean regions through literature it advocates a democratising of the canon in offering 'a' canon. It responds to those readers who are increasingly looking for books that can educate them on racial matters, as well as books from marginalised voices. The book thus contributes to the ongoing national debates around a decolonisation of educational curricula to better represent Britain's multiculturalism.
