Abstract or Description

This presentation is based on ongoing work. Links and references are scattered across the presentation; you will find a full list of references and online sources at the end of this document.
In the presentation, I address three issues.
• Southern tech Histories - the main concepts and questions that guide my work
• Caribbean Speculative Fiction - Caribbean poetics, reading in translation
• Vignettes from a surprising history of Computing in the Caribbean
I conceive the Caribbean as a multilingual culture space. My work begins from the premise that a sociologically adequate account of Caribbean geek culture should include, at a minimum, case studies from the Spanish and English Caribbean.
