Abstract or Description

This essay presents four Buddhist cousins in their sixties and explores familiar as well as novel elements to their life stories. Since we met in the 1980s, these four women have come to enjoy new living arrangements, a more developed consumer market, urbanisation and the provision of vernacular-language religious education for laypeople and practitioners. Their life histories reflect connections between new and old elements of both religious and household practice.
