Abstract or Description

An exploration of Cézanne revelations on the nature of objects, as the Tate Modern survey exhibition opens (5 Oct 2022). To this end, a close reading of his Still Life with Water Jug (c 1892-93), oil on canvas, also drawing on Merleau-Pontean perspectives on the significance of Cézanne's work for perceptual and cognitive shift.
