Abstract or Description

A new poem by Queen's Medal for Poetry recipient, Grace Nichols that I commissioned working with Goldsmiths to mark the 43rd anniversary of the Battle of Lewisham. The commission was in response to the fact that women were absent from the commemorative narratives concerning the mural, and this commission makes an intervention into that. It reflects upon the events of 13 August 1977 through the lens of the Black Lives Matter Movement and Covid-19. The poem is an example of my conceptual model, ‘Landmark Poetics’ and has also been installed in front of the commemorative mural to the Battle of Lewisham outside Goldsmiths Library on Lewisham Way.
