Abstract or Description

John Rich and the Eighteenth-Century London Stage: Commerce, Magic and Management was held at The Royal College of Surgeons, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, 26-27 January 2008 and featured a private tour of the Garrick Club. Presentations included papers on dance, music for the eighteenth-century stage, performance and gender, and staging Handel’s operas, among other topics. Multiple performing artists took part in the ‘Benefit Performance for John Rich’ , an entertainment featuring commedia dell’arte, French dance, opera arias, ballads and instrumental music. Artists included: Musicians of the Royal Academy of Music (director Laurence Cummings), Circus Space, Neil Jenkins, and Edith Lalonger (Paris).
