A collection of Artists and researchers' hypothesis and visual works, accompanying the IMS Project's symposium and exhibition at Flat Time House, in 2013

The Institute for Mathematical Science (IMS) was formed in 2009 in order to explore the relationship between contemporary art and science. Activated by the precedent of John Latham's work the group will present a programme of events over 2 weekends which investigates the divergent methodologies employed in the two disciplines.

Each member of The IMS project has proposed a hypothesis related to their practice to be tested against a yes/no outcome. Through the use of this scientific methodology the project asks, how does art function when it is grounded in the proposition of factual truth? Must art depart entirely from the self-reflexive tradition of critique in order to make such factual claims?
