Abstract or Description

Radio Show on Cubitt Community Radio
Broadcasting from Cubitt gallery, North London.
On air 19.01.25; available for playback and archived on CCR's streaming platforms.

In December 2024, discursive platform Décalé commissioned mellowdramatics to produce an audio piece in collaboration with young people - making experiments in sound production, sampling and spoken word while learning new skills and discussing themes that feel urgent to them.

This broadcast is the work of the minds of an amazing group of year ten and eleven students at St. Saviours & St. Olave’s school for girls in Southwark, South East London. Brought to you through Soundtrap, y2mate.nu and voice memos, arranged by mellowdramatics.

Thank you to : Chaniah, Fatima, Jahnaey, Jenesis, Kaliyam, Lydia, Precious, Sali, Samantha and Zarah for your contributions. This wouldn’t exist without you.

mellowdramatics is a founding member of Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S) & crew member of Tanum Sound System her practice as a DJ & operator pushes to resist co-option through attempts at rebuilding, redistributing and sustaining space for those disenfranchised & marginalised, both within London and further afield.

Décalé is a discursive artist’s platform and club night showcasing experiments in sound, art, performance and moving image. Décalé works to amplify marginalised and unrepresented artistic voices. Our programme holds space for accessibility, inclusivity and worldbuilding.

Curated by Chooc Ly Tan, Kadeem Oak and Leïla Arenou.
With thanks to the teachers Luana and Selene for all of their support on the day and in the run up.
