MaMaM is an ongoing practice research project composed of multiple artefacts that explore the physiological, psychological and social metamorphosis that is “Matrescence – the time of mother-becoming” as coined by the anthropologist Dana Raphael. The work articulates and explores methods of Autobiology and Matrescenography.

MaMaM contributes to the growing body of research on matrescence, maternal studies and maternal art. The project houses responses to my personal lived experience of becoming mother and mothering, alongside interactions with existing collections including the Birth Rites Collection and the Royal College of Midwives Museum and Archives housed at The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as well as opening conversations with practicing Midwifes and Midwifery lecturers at the Midwifery department at Kings College London and Croydon University Hospital Midwifery Services.
