Abstract or Description

Following the launch of the ‘Auto’ programme in February 2025 with the event ‘Writing to Undo the Self,’ Helena Reckitt, Susan Rudy and E Scourti convened an Open Planning Meeting at Goldsmiths CCA.

Participants were invited to share their ideas for possible texts and writers, themes and formats for the ‘Auto’ programme, exploring recent life writing, auto-theory, and biographically-informed fiction.

Following initial introductions, contributors wrote their ideas on large sheets of paper, pinned to the wall, which they then collaged into thematically-oriented sections.

Potential programme themes that emerged from the process included:

- Queer, Trans, Sex, Gender / sex and desire / cis-trans continuum

- Trauma, Ageing and Crip / cris, trauma, anxiety, erasure / Neuro-psycho-mental-epistemic-emotional life

- Embodied writing, poetry, experimental forms / what doesn’t look like writing but can be seen as writing / Somatic - semantic

- Disfluency, Error, Glitch in language, image and identity / Auto and self-extraction / Instability of the I / mistranslation / techno-fedualism

Monsters, Solidarities / Colonial oppression and perpetuation / Incarceration’s shaping of a ‘self’/ Prison and Border Abolition / Unruly bodies in feminism and art / Feminism inter/nationalism and Palestine / Ecolalia - Echolagia

- Hidden and Erased Narratives, Family Secrets, Archival Speculation and Critical Fabulation

Several organising groups emerged from the Open Planning Meeting, with the aim to co-research and conceptualise upcoming events in the ‘Auto’ programme. Plans were also put in place for a private Auto Writing Group for peer-led feedback and support.
