Abstract or Description

The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987 and provides three to six months long work/live opportunities for at least ten Swiss artists per year. During this period we developed a series of cyanotype prints.

Deep Blue Echoes
Cyanotype on paper, UV light exposure, plastic residues,113x64cm, 2025

This cyanotype is part of a series that explores our complex relationship with images— their economy, their ecology, and their contradictions. The works depict extinct or highly endangered aquatic plants, “re”generated with the aid of artificial intelligence.

Using UV light from video projectors, the images were printed in large format through the analogue cyanotype process. During exposure, fragments of plastic were applied directly to the surface, embedding traces of pollution into the image itself.

Deep Blue Echoes reflects on the paradox of using extractive, energy-intensive methods to preserve and archive what is vanishing.
