Abstract or Description

This chapter gives an overview of the historical presence of blackness in British theatre beginning with the first traces from the Roman invasion to the Renaissance, Restoration and beyond. It charts the move from a white representational dominance through to authentic creative agency exemplified in two leading contemporary Black British playwrights, debbie tucker green and Kwame Kwei-Armah.
