Originality: This is a rare comparison of several search methods under a variety of problem characteristics. To do the experiments, we developed a problem generator that can construct search problems of arbitrary difficulty, enabling much more extensive testing than standard practice. Rigour: All numerical results were tested over a statistically significant set of independent experiments and a thorough error analysis was applied. Significance: This full-length conference paper won the prize for best paper (poster presentation) at CEC, 2006. This IEEE congress is one of the two leading international meetings in the field of Evolutionary Computation. |
