Abstract or Description

The concept of Cognitive Acceleration in Science Education (CASE) has been established since the mid 1980s, and this work extends the ideas into Technology Education (CATE). The authors have undertaken a series of studies and the work is summarised and presented in this volume. The 95-page book and accompanying research task outlines' were the distilled trialled and tested materials used to engage with Design and Technology schemes of work within the secondary school curriculum throughout the research period (1992 - 2002). The material was reviewed by a publishing team specialising in cognition and cognitive development and subsequently accepted by them for publishing. Collectively this became the CATE project (Cognitive Acceleration through Technology Education) and remains the key research instrument for pre and post testing in schools. The publication became a strong dissemination vehicle for the research carried out to date, the methodologies adopted and the means to attract interested participants in planned future studies.
