Chapter for a the centenary edition of Let Us Now Praise Famous Men -
A reading of The Shelter Section of James Agee and Walker Evans' study of three sharecropper families in the 1930s. It investigates the use of architectural and religious metaphor in the book - particularly as filtered through Agee's part lyrical part devotional rhetoric.
