Abstract or Description

In this book I show that, contrary to a prevailing view, Adorno's seminal work "Minima Moralia" (1951) is not simply a collection of loosely related aphorisms and fragments on a range of diverse social, cultural and artistic topics, but contains an original approach to moral philosophy. This approach is to be sought in the form of the aphorism itself. An aphorism does not provide arguments to support its insight. When it succeeds, it allows the reader to see and understand something immediately. Hence each aphorism appears to say: "That's it!" The approach to moral philosophy to be found in "Minima Moralia" hinges on the difference between seeing something and arguing for it since in order to see something some heightened form of attentiveness to "damaged life" is required.
