Abstract or Description:

Metaphorical Space (co-organized with Pınar Öğrenci) looked into architecture and urban spaces in the context of uprisings and revolutionary impulses from Athens, to Aleppo, Tehran, Izmir, Cairo. It examined the relationship of social movements with space, authority, and memory. How can the idea of space as ‘metaphor’ help us think differently about urban and architectural productions of form within the frameworks of war, revolution, military coups and rebellion movements?

The exhibition featured works by Louis Henderson, Sibel Horada, Metehan Özcan, Neriman Polat, Özge Topçu amongst others and was was supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum Istanbul, Arts Council England, Openvizor, Seven Cerceve, SALT, Depo Istanbul and Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV).

The associated essay “Mecazi mekân” (with Pınar Öğrenci) was published in Art Unlimited (July 2018).
