Abstract or Description:

The exhibition for the Turner Prize in Tate Britain narrates the evolution of one Forensic Architecture’s major investigations into the Israeli police killing of Yaakub Musa Abu al-Qi’an, a Palestinian-Bedoin teacher, in the illegalised village of Umm al-Hiran in the al-Naqab/Negev. Israeli officials said they shot al-Qi’an in a split second decision as an act of self defence when he engaged in a terror attack -- ruming his car into a group of policemen who were there to destroy his home, killing one. The counter-investigation of the official narrative engaged both the police shooting and its coverup. It included video and audio analysis, 4 20 minutes videos, wall piece, a 3D model, and aerial image interpretation using cameras mounted on kites. The investigation including a detailed physical reenactment of the incident which involved residents, eye-witnesses and activists as participants and actors managed to contest the police narrative. The exhibition in Tate Britain offered funding and an alternative forum in which this investigation was displayed and reported upon, as well as a public program with seminars and lectures.
