Abstract or Description

Curators and programme specialists from collecting institutions including the British Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, Museum London, the National Portrait Gallery and Tate Modern joined museum and curatorial studies scholars to discuss queer curatorial and programming strategies. The workshop took the form of a series of short presentations followed by a moderated roundtable discussion amongst c.30 members of the UK's LGBT museums network.

Helena Reckitt chaired the session on Curating with Bernard Horrocks, Guest Curator and Copyright Officer, National Portrait Gallery.

Other panels were on Collecting, with Sarah Gudgin, Curator of Contemporary Collecting, Museum of London, chaired by Jan Pimblett, Principal Development Officer, London Metropolitan Archives; Interpretation, with Richard Parkinson, Assistant Keeper, Egyptology, British Museum, chaired by Robert Mills, Lecturer in Medieval Art, University College London; Programming, with Marcus Dickey Horley, Special Project Curator, Tate Modern, chaired by Oliver Winchester, Project Curator, Wellcome Collection.

A Keynote lecture was given by Richard Sandell, Director/Head of Museum Studies, University of Leicester, chaired by Amy Mechowski, Assistant Curator and Chair, LGBTQ Network, V&A

The workshop ended with a performance in the galleries by The Pink Singers
