Abstract or Description

Through a series of lectures, publications and exhibitions, the Gravity guest lecture series examines the process of making visual art. The series' of public lectures examine how encounters with objects can generate new work, methods and methodologies, philosophies and u-turns. While the lectures are public, a guaranteed core audience is our own Fine Art and Creative Art Practice students who are tasked to interrogate the currency of traditional medium specific studio making practices alongside contemporary discourse. In our first season (2010) we worked with artists, makers, theorists and cultural commentators including: Jeremy Deller, Karla Black, Jocelyn Cammack, Ian Kiaer, Simon Bill, Martin Boyce, Lizzie Fisher, Kim L. Pace and Edmund de Waal.
